The Fosi Audio PH05 is a headphone amplifier designed to power and control the volume of up to five headphones simultaneously. It's a niche product that caters to specific needs, and understanding those needs is key to evaluating whether this is the right amplifier for you.

Utilizing the Texas Instruments NE5532 operational amplifier chip, this device ensures stable and pure sound quality. The PH05 features five 3.5mm audio output ports, allowing up to five pairs of headphones or iems to be connected simultaneously, each with independent volume control and one master volume.

The PH05 sports a compact and sleek design that fits well in any audio setup. The build quality is like any other Fosi product its solid and built to last, with high-quality capacitors, inductors, and resistors contributing to its durability and performance. The top panel includes a master volume control knob, individual volume controls for each channel, a multifunction power/mute button, and an indicator light for operational status. The front panel features the 3.5mm AUX input and five 3.5mm headphone outputs, along with a DC 12V power input. The intuitive layout makes it user-friendly and pretty much straight forward.

Setting up the PH05 is straightforward. After connecting the power adapter and plugging in the audio source and headphones, the device is ready to use. The independent volume controls for each channel are particularly useful for balancing sound levels when using different headphones with varying impedances. The one-touch mute function is a convenient feature, allowing quick muting and unmuting with a brief press of the multifunction button. The indicator light provides clear feedback on the device’s status, turning orange when powered on and blue when muted.

As the PH05 lacks a built-in DAC, it prioritizes amplifying the source signal without altering its character, i use it with my Fosi SK02 dac connected to Fosi SK01 as Pre-amp this way when reviewing iems its more easy and efficient for me to switch iems without the hassles of plugging and unplugging from the source, i also use the tone controls of the SK01 to isolated frequencies to detect distortions in the iems driver.

A key strength of the PH05 is its ability to enhance dynamics and deliver ample power. Each channel's 310mW output is impressive for this price range. This is particularly beneficial for low-sensitivity or high-impedance headphones and IEMs. The increased power translates to not just higher volume but also improved dynamic range, resulting in punchier bass and more pronounced sub-bass. The Texas Instruments NE5532 operational amplifier chip ensures that the sound remains clear and stable, with low total harmonic distortion (THD) of just 0.001%. The device’s noise floor is remarkably low at 25μV, contributing to a clean audio output without noticeable background noise.

There is a noticeable improvements in listening experience when pairing the PH05 with specific dongles. The overall sound becomes more vibrant and lively, especially with regards to bass and treble extension. I find it that the power boost is particularly advantageous when comparing multiple IEMs, ensuring a level playing field for optimal performance evaluation, what i do is i use the individual volumes to match the impedance and listening levels of the plugged iems once i hear its on the same volume strenght then i can control all of the five channels level with the master volume knob.

While the PH05 shines in many areas, it does introduce some background noise but only in the beginning just a few seconds after pushing the power button you will hear a faint hiss that will last for like 3-4 seconds then it is gone and i think it is perfectly normal since the device is still powering itself up, better to not wear your iem when powering the PH05, and when in use i did not hear a noticable background noice even with my most sensitive iems.

Kiwi Ears Aether: A Planar That Defies Expectations Pros: ✔ Accurate, reference-style tuning with musicality ✔ Deep, controlled sub-bass with no bloat ✔ Natural, transparent midrange with excellent timbre ✔ Smooth, airy treble with great detail retrieval ✔ Expansive soundstage and pinpoint imaging ✔ Comfortable fit  Cons:  ✖ Not for bassheads—this is clean, not boomy bass ✖ Requires proper ear tip selection for the best sound The Kiwi Ears Aether is an IEM that immediately piqued my curiosity. With a 15.3mm planar magnetic driver, it features one of the largest planar diaphragms I’ve encountered in an IEM. Naturally, I expected a big, bold, bass-heavy, and colored sound a fun, V-shaped tuning with an emphasis on low-end rumble and aggressive treble. But from the moment I pressed play, it became clear that Kiwi Ears had taken a completely different approach. Instead of boosting the bass to overwhelming levels or pushing the treble into sharp, overly energetic territory, ...
